| The attic space in the kiln building. This is now fitted with a brick floor, but it used to be sand for insulation. Here the coal was stored to fire the kiln from above, through numerous small stokeholes. The brick pillars support the air valves used to compartment the central flue of the kiln which funnels off the hot gases to the chimney. |
