Visitors to the C&DR

Part 3: other modellers

Apart from models by the Wessex NG modellers, many of whom I know personally, and those by P.D.Hancock, many other models have appeared on C&DR metals. Here follows a selection.

Left: The War Department Baldwin of the late David Mander’s famous Stronalacher Railway poses on Rae Bridge in 2004. It was brought along by Ian Turner, who had been doing some maintenance on this excellent scratchbuilt locomotive. Right: the double Fairlie which was built by German 009 modeller Harald Wingchen, pauses at Rae Bridge. This loco uses two Fleischmann 0-4-0 chassis for power.

A selection of motor trams (petrol railcars in English parlance) brought to a Dutch Group meeting by Dick van Beek in 2004. Dick builds all his rolling stock from scratch.

More motor trams by Dick van Beek.

Left: a tiny Bagnall saddle tank built by fellow Dutch 009 Group member Jaap Stuurman shunting the distillery yard. Right: a Talyllyn train by Jaap crossing the bridge in the Glenclachan Gorge, slightly reminiscent of Dolgoch.

Left: the same train, hauled by ‘Sir Haydn’, in close-up. Right: ‘Dolgoch’ hauling a train past the ruined winding house above Rae Bridge.

Left: ‘Douglas’, built by Jaap, shunting stock on the quay at Dunalistair. Right: a very different scene, comparing ‘Jock’ to another vertical boiler engine, built by Mike Sharman for Paul Towers in 1969 for his ‘Wunce Onli’ tropical island layout.

Left: a big Garratt (made by Paul Windle) owned by Roger Christian, working a coal train through Rae Bridge. Right: Roger Christian’s Backwoods model of a Rheidol engine compared to my own Backwoods ‘Atlantic’.
